world wide in 124 countries with over 50,000 teachers and 500,000 students from

(MYP) and the IB Diploma Program. Valley High School became an authorized provider
of this prestigious college preparatory program in 1979.
The Middle Years Program (MYP) at Valley High School is for Freshmen and Sophomore
students preparing to enter into the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
(IB) in their Junior and Senior years. The first two years of curriculum is advanced
learning based on student inquiry in preparation for the academically challenging
IB Diploma Program. The MYP program provides a framework that encourages gifted
students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects
and the real world while becoming critical and reflective thinkers.
Each participating student in the IB Diploma Program must fulfill two years of studies
in six prescribed subject areas that include, Literature, Foreign Language, Science,
Mathematics, Computer Science, and Humanities. In order to receive the IB Certificate,
the student is required to take and pass IB examinations in each of the six subject
areas. The student is required to write an Extended Essay of approximately 4,000
words on a topic of their choosing, complete a seminar in the philosophy of learning
